Hey everyone! Dan here. We've been recording this unplugged/acoustic album for the past couple months now, and we're finally nearing the end. It's been a blast making this record! We've been doing it all on our own which has been amazing! We decided that we want to get our fans involved in the artwork/packaging of the album. We're looking for someone to come up with cover art. We've had some really great submissions so far. If you or any of your friends are interested in taking part in this, we'd LOVE to see your ideas. As of now we don't have a firm title for the record so I can't give much direction on art concepts. Just keep in mind that this is an acoustic/unplugged record with the hits and misses of our past...along with a couple new songs. It's getting closer to the deadline so if you're thinking about getting involved, now is the time!

What's up loyal Hooba fans? It's Doug here. As you may know we've been in the studio working hard on an upcoming acoustic album as well as writing and rehearsing new music for another full length album. There is a lot more than just music that goes into making an album though and that's where we need your help. We want to get EVERYONE involved in the process so we're having a contest to design the cover artwork for the new acoustic album. It doesn't matter if you're a professional graphic designer or just someone who likes to draw on napkins. Everyone is welcome to partake in the contest. Below are the details on what you need to enter. Remember it's an acoustic album so keep that in mind when you're thinking about designs. We're all anxiously awaiting to see what you guys can come up with. We've met so many creative fans over the years so we know it's going to be great. Also, make sure to tell your friends and their friend's friends because we're letting the fans vote for the top 3 entries that we're going to pick the winner from.

HOW TO ENTER :

1)    Email your album cover to hoobastankalbumart@gmail.com
2)    On April 26th, the band will pick the top 20 entries submitted and put them up on their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hoobastank) for fans to vote on.
3)    On May 1st the three entries with the most votes will be sent to the band for final selection and the winner will be notified.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

ONLY send in original artwork. That means DON’T use any images that you have found on the internet that you have not created yourself. If you didn’t create it, we can’t use it.??

Please make sure you send in a high quality .jpeg or .gif file at least 300 dpi minimum. Make sure your entry is at least 600 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall with a 1 x 1 aspect ratio.??

We've been touring now for almost a decade and those who are fans know that although we take our music very seriously we don't take ourselves very seriously. We've always loved goofing around on and off the stage. One thing we've been doing for years now is to cover iconic songs from the past during our shows to test the crowd's musical knowledge and to get everyone loosened up and singing along a little. Everything from the theme songs to Rocky and the tv show CHIPS to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'". Song's we pretty much know everyone will know. Recently on our last Japan/Southeast Asia/Australia tour this summer we were brainstorming for some new songs to unleash on the people. One of them happened to be Ray Parker Jr's Ghostbusters. We played our own shortened version of it at a few shows and the crowds went BERZERK! Seriously it was so funny that half the time I couldn't hold it together and would laugh in mid verse. So seeing the crowd's reaction to the song and it being so close to Halloween we decided to record it for fun at Chris, our drummer's home studio. We had a lot of fun recording it and we hope everyone has fun listening to it. Happy Halloween from Hoobastank. Who ya gonna call?

We are partnering with non-profit organization Music for Relief to support the people in South Asia displaced by Cyclone Aila.
MFR is responding to help provide relief following Cyclone Aila. The Cyclone struck eastern India and coastal Bangladesh one week ago on Monday 5/25 leaving millions of people displaced and in desperate need of food, water and shelter. In West Bengal at least 5.1 million people were displaced, with more than one million people stranded in the Sundarban islands alone, most of them without any food or water. Food security and loss of livelihood are also major concerns as it is estimated that 80,000 acres of rice paddy and other crops have been destroyed, about 250,000 acres partially destroyed and over 50,000 poultry and livestock have been killed.

Being a music critic myself, I sometimes feel that critics are too critical for the sake of being critical. I read a review on Hoobastank‘s new record called For (N) ever saying the band was fading into obsolescence. Since when is evolution considered obsolescence? I think people are too quick to judge a band based on something they‘ve only heard one time or not at all. Remember the good times before, ?The Reason? What about ?Out of Control? That song fuckin rocks. I know, that song (The Reason) is still playing on ?Adult Contemporary and I‘m so over it to. But the band is back, like it or not and they are on a mission to re-introduce the world to Hoobastank 2009. Vocalist Doug Robb (yeah I know, two first names) took some time to sit down with our very own Annette to discuss the bands direction for the future.

SW- What can we expect from new album For (N) Ever hence (fornever)?

Doug- Wow that is a strange and interesting question that is something that a band does not think about, what do we think this album can give the fans this time around. We just concentrate on the music and let the chips fall where they may, maybe that just the way we work. I think they can expect honesty, you know, and we always been a band who prides there selves on being real , like who you see on stage and like who you see talking to you is the person I am when I am walking my dog. None of us got into music cause we wanted to be rock stars or act like jackasses we are just into playing music it‘s just a outlet. I think that what they can expect.

SW- Is it true that Hoobastank has a burrito at Denny’s called the Hooba-burrito?

Doug- Yes, first off I love to cook, that does not mean I am very good at it, but I can hold my own. What happen was Denny‘s had approached us in the summer of 08, and said we a putting together a menu with musicians like stuff they make on the road or stuff they would eat during late night after the show, cause a lot of times no places are open but Denny‘s is open usually, we were thinking cool we‘ll do it. We make the toasty sandwiches, originally we thought we‘ll will do something like that. Hoobastank grilled cheese whatever that‘s what we do a lot of on the bus. But they met us out here in L.A. they flew out the head chef (I did not even know Denny‘s had a head chef) they do and they let us run wild in the kitchen and eventually we came up with ingredients like a Bar- B- Q chicken pizza but instead of a pizza crust it‘s a tortilla rolled up then grilled. We don‘t make this on the bus, but it‘s really good I can not imagine eating it more then once a month; it‘s got nacho cheeses, chicken, bacon. Really quote, un-quote, unhealthy stuff but we did play a show in Hawaii and the Denny‘s did invite us to go over there to hang out and we invited a bunch of fan‘s from the show, we hung out, signed autographs, ate and left.

SW- You guy‘s went through management changes…How has that effected the band?

Doug- It‘s been a positive and negative, good and bad we parted way‘s with our manager I want to say late 2007 that we have been working with since we got signed who is a great guy and still a good friend of ours

that was obviously very difficult it was like breaking up with your girlfriend. We then signed on with new management and 6 months later our manager passed away and that was tragic in it‘s self so it has been a interesting ride. We talk to more management after that and ended up with a company called the Collective that now we really, really enjoy we think they are on top of there game and arriving here has it‘s share of up‘s and down‘s.

SW- I read a quote that was made, what did you mean when this was said “our tire’s needed a little air but once they are pumped it’s going to be sick”?

Doug- I think that was referring to our mental state coming off the last record. When we were done touring off the last record we can throw in all of our automobile analogies here if you want our tires were low or

Whatever, we were just tired. We were burnt on the whole thing, we needed to fill up the tank or the tire‘s what ever you want to call it, we needed a little time to revaluate the whole thing. Now that we have are car is running smoothly and ready to race other cars.

SW- How do you feel about performing with Staind.

Doug- Oh it‘s great I am really looking forward to it. We have done some shows with them over the year‘s most recently in 07 we did some festival shows in South Africa. They are real cool guys it‘s always positive when you run into other bands that are just mellow and are down to earth and who are real people and they are one of those bands. Doing the tour with them in April is going to be a blast. One they are a really good band they are super talented, and got great fans. Two we don‘t have to worry about wondering if these guys are jerks.

SW- Have you ever toured with any jerks.

Doug- I would say no, there has been a few people in a few bands that I was like dude I am not big fan‘s of but, for the most part I think it work‘s the other way around I may have a perception of a band going into a tour and end up meeting the band and saying they are really cool.

SW- “The Reason” was said to be a make or break song, how do you think “My Turn” will be?

Doug- That‘s weird, that‘s the first time I‘ve heard that question. I have never heard “The Reason” to be a make or break song. I think it did more making then breaking. The song “My Turn” has a different purpose, none of us think it has the type of broad appeal like the song “The Reason” has, but it‘s not intended to. It‘s a rock song you know the message it self is universal but the attitude and the vibe not everybody is going to love. The people who like this kind of music, that is who this song is for.

SW- I was checking for tour dates and I only seen 3 are there going to be more added and any added for the Baltimore area?

Doug- If you check the actual Hoobastank.com not sure if the tour dates are up, but I think they might be. We got a lot of stuff going on, we are starting a tour and the record comes out on January 27th and then we are going to play Leno that night. Then we are on a red eye to Orlando to start a tour with 3 Doors Down on the 28th that will run through mid March then we will be in Japan and South East Asia then we come back in April start the tour with Staind that will run through mid to late May. We are pretty muck booked until June. I am sure some site will be able to tell you more specific.

SW- Are there any singles fans can relate to on the For(N)ever album, like they related to the singles “Crawling in the Dark” and “Running Away”?

Doug- I really don‘t know what they expect from us, I think they just want us to keep making music. I think any of the bands I am fans of I don‘t need to be anything else but to make music and not to be douche bags. As far as the video games go our drummer Chris and myself we play a lot of X-box when we any time maybe we are just a product of that video game generation. You can play online around the world, at one point we said lets make some accounts that specifically for the band and let‘s post them on My-space or whatever and say if there are any fans want to play with us this is our screen name hit us up.

SW- Where did the name Hoobastank come from?

Doug- That question has been asked 18 million times. I think when we first got asked this question when we first got signed in 2000 we thought it would be clever to con-stantly give people different answers. I think we found out after a year that was a bad idea because all it really did is feed the question more. People wanted to ask it more and to see what we wanted to say. In all honesty it was a word that was made up in high school; it kind of took the place of a cuss word. Something you could say that didn‘t mean anything but sounded like it was a dirty. We were 18 at the time, you can‘t‘ really expect brilliance at that age. When were trying to figure out what to called the band we shot down everything we liked because we over analyzed it ourselves or somebody al-ready had the band name. Hoobastank came back around and I think we just said fuck it, lets just start playing with it, we wanted to play so bad we can slap any name on there as long as we get to go out and play. Obviously we love to play music it was never our in-tentions to be rock stars and stuff like that. I think if we intended to be we would have chose a name that wasn‘t so strange sounding. We never have imagined that 14 or 15 years later, 4 major albums later, multiple award nomination later we would still be here talking about it..

SW- I was checking out some picture‘s and I noticed there was 4 member‘s and now I only see 3 member‘s in the band?

Doug- From 1994 – 2004 we had our original bass player, in 2004 or 2005 we parted ways some where around that time we parted ways, it was basically time for him to move on and start a family and all that good stuff so really could not blame him. Since them then we have had a couple of touring bass player‘s not official band member‘s, people who come along for the ride and just play show‘s and rock out with us. All the business decision and music writing is just the 3 of us. We are a 4 piece band when you see us, and the 3 of us are original members and the other guy is hired guy.
